Can someone point me in the right direction? cheers JeffJeffThis discussion is locked (either by moderator or because no new reply was posted within 30 days) sbiddleUber GeekModeratorSubscriber4144posts54 friends Reply # 63783 posted on 15-MAR-2007 09:31You do realise a a WiFi phone is only suitable if you're using a VoIP provider or IP PBX to support it?As for recommendations the new Philips DECT phones are very nice (albiet a bit bulky) but in my experience most DECT phones all offer pretty similair performance. I'd go for DECT phone rather than 2.4Ghz phones to avoid and potential interference with WiFi routers since they both use the same 2.4GHz ISM frequencies.PVR: AMD X2 4800+, 2GB RAM, Vista Ultimate, PowerDVD8, Sapphire ATI 2600Pro (got rid of this piece of junk), NVidia 8500GT, Hauppauge Nova 500T, Hauppauge HVR3000, Hauppauge MCE150 running GB-PVR.Phone System: Asterisk + SPA921's + Linksys PAP2 using WxC's VFX service (NZ DDI) and Faktortel (Australian DDI)OwenstaxWannabe Geek4postsReply # 63784 posted on 15-MAR-2007 09:42thanks for your reply. a year ago I bought a panasonic tcd580 - brilliant wee phone. then i found out about registering to two bases, went to buy another couple and they are off the market!Based on a vendor recomendation I bought a philips SE635, meets most of my criteria unfotunatley I found it didn't take a headset. They are now suggesting various uniden 5.8 GHz phones but I have the impression that higher frequency are better clarity but shorter range, and range is an important consideration (long thin house and section). I mentioned wifi although know nothing about it. I am happy to spend several hundred dollars even up top $1000 to get a good system working. Would certainly appreciate any other thoughtsJeffsbiddleUber GeekModeratorSubscriber4144posts54 friends Reply # 63785 posted on 15-MAR-2007 09:54If range is an important issue I'd consider maybe approaching a phone installer. Any GAP compliment DECT phone should work with any base station or base set that is GAP complient. You can get DECT base stations that will extend the range of any GAP compliant DECT phone one of these could easily be located at the other end of a building to increase range. The only WiFi cordless phones are ones to use in a VoIP invironment.PVR: AMD X2 4800+, 2GB RAM, Vista Ultimate, PowerDVD8, Sapphire ATI 2600Pro (got rid of this piece of junk), NVidia 8500GT, Hauppauge Nova 500T, Hauppauge HVR3000, Hauppauge MCE150 running GB-PVR.Phone System: Asterisk + SPA921's + Linksys PAP2 using WxC's VFX service (NZ DDI) and Faktortel (Australian DDI)OwenstaxWannabe Geek4postsReply # 63786 posted on 15-MAR-2007 09:57Will do! maybe I just stick with my exsiting phone. They aren't cheap however but would be able to deliver a good solution.PVR: AMD X2 4800+, 2GB RAM, Vista Ultimate, PowerDVD8, Sapphire ATI 2600Pro (got rid of this piece of junk), NVidia 8500GT, Hauppauge Nova 500T, Hauppauge HVR3000, Hauppauge MCE150 running GB-PVR.Phone System: Asterisk + SPA921's + Linksys PAP2 using WxC's VFX service (NZ DDI) and Faktortel (Australian DDI)cyril7Uber Geek1357posts30 friends Reply # 63797 posted on 15-MAR-2007 11:49DECT, DECT and DECT, but ensure that it is GAP compliant, that will allow other GAP compliant DECT phones to connect to the base. The Doro 530 series have 2.5mm headset ports as do a few others. As Steve pointed out Online Communications have a good selection of European DECT phones that are well featured.
I have 4 Panasonics on a base station here, of the current Panasonics only the KX-TG1861 has a headset jack, but you can mix and match handsets as they are GAP compliant, be warned the cheapest Panasonic KX-TG1811 is not GAP compliant. You can order extra handsets that come with a simple base to hold and charge, but most shops dont carry extra handsets in stock.
The best feature I like with DECT phones is the way you can use the system like a proper PABX.
Avoid 2.4GHz phones, while they have better range they will kill your Wifi, and the voice quality is rubbish.
